Flag of Sri LankaBrigade Commander Senarath Bandara said yesterday (27) that it was an honor to liberate the Madhu Church from the clutches of the terrorists for the benefit of the entire Catholic community in the country without firing even a single bullet.

He revealed that apart from some minor damage to the roof of the church caused by firing by the LTTE, the church was found to be intact, thus disproving the mischievous claims made by various parties to the effect that security forces were targeting the church.

A media group, visiting Madhu, were able to confirm all this first hand. It was found that the ceiling of the Sacred Heart Church South of the Madhu Church was damaged and it was clear that this was the result of some explosion orchestrated within the precincts of that building.

After liberating the area, Catholic priests were invited to come and check the inventory so that charges of looting and destruction typical of those engaged in misinforming and misrepresenting can be refuted. The visiting priests were able to see for themselves that there was absolutely no truth in allegations that the security forces had damaged the church.

Brigade Commander Bandara further said that all measures are being taken to enable the statue of Our Lady of Madhu to be brought back to the Church.
