Colonel Rajesh Mehta, who is leading the Indian forces, stated here that the counter-terrorism exercise will concentrate on counter-insurgency, counter maritime piracy operations, search and rescue, hostage rescue, advanced firing techniques and sniper surveillance.

Mehta said the Indian soldiers are from the 4th Gorkha Regiment, which is a highly specialized battalion trained in counter-terrorism operations. Also taking part, Mehta added, are soldiers of the Special Forces from the Parachute Regiment.

The Indian officer pointed out that both countries are aware that terrorism and piracy are threatening world peace and that the forces of Seychelles and India need to be well prepared to tackle these menaces.

For his part, Colonel Clifford Roseline, the SPDF Chief of Staff averred that such an exercise will strengthen the ties between the two countries.

He added that the exercise code named Lamitye-9 (Friendship-9) is the fourth to be held with the participation of the two countries.

He pointed out that both Seychelles and India share common concerns in the fight against global terrorism and maritime piracy, adding this is a great opportunity to build an even stronger relationship between the two countries.
