Drunk Passenger Forces Lufthansa Airliner to Make an Emergency Landing

A drunk passenger has caused a Lufthansa airliner en route from Munich to Tokyo to make an emergency landing in Russia’s Far East city early on Saturday.

“An A340 with 304 passengers on board bound from Munich to Tokyo made an emergency landing in Khabarovsk due to an improper behavior of one of the passengers,” the unidentified official said giving no further details.

He said the plane continued on to Tokyo after about an hour on the ground in Khabarovsk with all the passengers on board, including the troublemaker.

Italian Foreign Minister Says the E.U. Should Enhance Its Relations with Russia

Italian Foreign Minister Franco Frattini said on Saturday that the European Union (EU) should enhance the strategic nature of its relations with Russia.

“Italy has been always stating and will always be that it is necessary to enhance strategic relations between the EU and Russia. Italy has outstanding bilateral relations with Moscow, but we feel that there should be done more at the European level,” Frattini said commenting on the results of the Russia-EU summit in the Far Eastern Russian city of Khabarovsk.

Russia reaffirmed on Friday it will not ratify the existing Energy Charter and called for a new energy agreement to ensure future global energy security.

“Failed negotiations on the energy problem have once again displayed EU’s inability of finding a common stance on this issue,” he said adding that “…Europe cannot develop without Russia and vice versa.”

The original Energy Charter was signed in The Hague on December 17, 1991. By ratifying the treaty, Russia would have to give access to its pipelines for free natural gas transit from Central Asia to the European Union. However, Russian companies would not be able to freely access European pipelines.

Russian Woman Gives Birth to ‘giant Baby’

A woman in Khabarovsk in Russia’s Far East has given birth to a baby weighing 6.1 kilograms (13 pounds 6 ounces), almost twice as much as an average newborn, the hospital said.

“The baby’s mother was given a Caesarian section – the child is her sixth,” the hospital’s chief doctor told RIA Novosti, adding that the mother and child are “feeling well.”

The previous record in the region had been set by a 5.6 kg newborn.

Russia’s heaviest baby on record was born in the Altai Territory in southern Siberia in September last year, and weighted 7.75 kg (17 lb) at birth.

The average weight of newborn babies is about 3.2 kg (7 lb).

According to Guinness World Records, the heaviest newborn ever weighted 13.26 kg (29 lb 4 oz). The baby was born in 1939 in Illinois, U.S., but died a few hours later of respiratory problems. The heaviest surviving newborn was a 10.2 kg (22 lb 3 oz) boy, born in 1955 in Italy.
