During the event’s silent auction, Miley placed a bid on what will be her second hearing mission to Haiti – and won. The end-of-evening donation helped the Foundation edge past last year’s funds raised ($7 million), and reach a record-breaking $7.2 million for the evening.  Miley first visited the country with the Starkey Hearing Foundation in March 2011, where she helped distribute hearing aids to those in need. It was Miley’s first introduction to the Starkey Hearing Foundation, and quickly led to her involvement in the Foundation’s Listen Carefully campaign.

Launched in April, the message of the campaign, directed mostly to young people, stresses a clear message – “your hearing is fragile, so don’t listen loudly, listen carefully,” Cyrus appeared in a series of public service ads on behalf of the campaign, and also utilized her Get Your Good On Facebook page to reach fans with the message. Fans of the artist were also invited to enter a sweepstakes for a chance to win a “listening experience” with the famous singer during a sound check at this year’s So The World May Hear Awards Gala where she talked about her experience, performed The Climb among other signature hits, and graciously met with sweepstakes winners mother and daughter Lisa and Samantha Sobek, from Belleville, NJ.

“After I went on my first mission to Haiti with the Starkey Hearing Foundation, I felt so drawn to helping others hear for the first time and immediately wanted to look for another chance to go back and help again,” said Cyrus.  “I grew up around music with my brothers and sisters and couldn’t imagine what it would be like if we couldn’t hear the magic of music – it’s had such an influence on my life – so I want everyone to have the ability to enjoy sound as it was intended.”

The mission of the Starkey Hearing Foundation is to foster greater understanding among people through hearing care by focusing on awareness, education, protection and treatment so the world may hear. Every dollar of the $7.2 million raised at this year’s Gala will go towards helping the Foundation reach its goal of helping children and adults hear.

I raised mine, too, telling the world for the first time that I had the disease,” Nick said to the awestruck crowd. “I made a promise to myself that I wouldn’t let diabetes slow me down…and five years later it hasn’t. Many people have helped me and I want to thank the people in this room for coming out and Bayer HealthCare for all of the support you have shown.” Jonas serves as a spokesperson for Bayer Healthcare Diabetes Care, a sponsor of the event.

Dubbed New York’s largest indoor carnival, the celebrated afternoon offered a whirlwind of  festivities. We’re all in this together until they find a cure!”

The McAfee Most Dangerous Celebrities^TM study found movie stars and models top the “most dangerous” list this year while politicians like Barack Obama and Sarah Palin are among the safest.

Cybercriminals often use the names of popular celebrities to lure people to sites that are actually laden with malicious software. Anyone looking for the latest videos or pictures could end up with a malware-ridden computer instead of just trendy content.

“This year, the search results for celebrities are safer than they’ve been in previous years, but there are still dangers when searching online,” said Dave Marcus, security researcher for McAfee Labs. “Through consumer education and tools, such as McAfee^® SiteAdvisor^® site ratings, consumers are getting smarter about searching online, yet cybercriminals are getting sneakier in their techniques. Now they’re hiding malicious content in ‘tiny’ places like shortened URLs that can spread virally in social networking sites and Twitter, instead of on websites and downloads.”

Cameron Diaz Searches Yield Ten Percent Chance of Landing on a Malicious Site

McAfee research found that searching for the latest Cameron Diaz pictures and downloads yields a ten percent chance of landing on a website that’s tested positive for online threats, such as spyware, adware, spam, phishing, viruses and other malware.

Fans searching for “Cameron Diaz” or “Cameron Diaz and downloads,” “Cameron Diaz and screen savers,” “Cameron Diaz and wallpaper,” “Cameron Diaz and photos” and “Cameron Diaz and videos” are at risk of running into online threats designed to steal personal information. Clicking on these risky sites and downloading files like photos, videos or screensavers exposes surfers or consumers to the risk of downloading the viruses and malware.

The study uses SiteAdvisor site ratings, which indicates which sites are risky to search for celebrity names on the Web and calculate an overall risk percentage. The top 10 celebrities from this year’s study with the highest percentages of risk are:

“Cybercriminals follow the same hot topics as consumers, and create traps based on the latest trends,” continued Marcus. “Whether you’re surfing the Web from your computer or your phone or clicking on links in Twitter about your favorite celeb, you should surf safely, and make sure you’re using the latest security software.”

Beware of Victoria’s Secret Beauties

Three of Victoria’s Secret top models are among the top ten this year. Searching for downloads of sexy Gisele Bündchen (#4), Adriana Lima (#6), and Heidi Klum (#9) can result in landing on a high percentage of risky sites.

Dangerous Athletes

Tennis stars Maria Sharapova and Andy Roddick came in at (#13) and (#14) respectively. Most of the risky sites were uncovered when searching for screensavers featuring these sexy athletes. David Beckham ranked (#29) and Tiger Woods ranked (#33) this year.

“Bieber Fever” is Not Dangerous

Teen sensation Justin Bieber ranked towards the bottom of the list at #46. This young star recently broke a YouTube record with more views than Lady Gaga (#37). Other young Hollywood stars like Miley Cyrus (#44) and Zac Efron (#40) were also relatively safe to search.

Obama and Palin at the Bottom of the Pack

President Barack Obama (#49) and Sarah Palin (#50) are not among the most risky personalities to search; they ranked in the bottom of this year’s results, moving even lower on the list compared to last year.

Searching for the latest celebrity news and downloads can cause serious damage to one’s personal computer.

Every day, cybercriminals use celebrities’ names and images, like Kim Kardashian and Rihanna, to lure surfers searching for the latest stories, screen savers and ringtones to sites offering free downloads laden with malware.

Beyonce – Number Two for Two Years Counting

Pop music phenom Beyoncé maintained her number two position for the second consecutive year, setting McAfee’s record as the overall most frequent, highly-ranked celebrity in the top five.
