Tanzanian-born ‘Osama Bin London’ Convicted for Terrorism in Britain

A Tanzanian-born Muslim fanatic who dubbed himself “Osama bin London” was on Tuesday convicted by a London court, having been found guilty of leading his own al-Qaeda terrorist training camps in Britain and encouraging his followers to “murder non-believers.”

Mohammed Hamid, 50, was convicted, along with six followers, three of them, Africans - Kibley da Costa, 25, Mohammed al-Figari, 45; and Kader Ahmed, 20, Atilla Ahmet, 43, Yassin Mutegombwa, 23 and Mohammed Kyriacou, 19.

All, but one, admitted attending Hamid’s training camps.

Their five-month trial at Woolwich Crown Court - Southeast London, was the first to deal with a new offense, introduced under the UK Terrorism Act 2006, of attending a place used for terrorism training-cum-activities.

Among his recruits were members of the deadly gang of the July 21 2005 failed bombers on London’s transport system, which came two weeks after 52 people were killed along with four suicide bombers in several co-ordinated attacks on the city.

A jury singled out Hamid for drilling questions “for championing the leadership of a deadly institution that specializes in “soliciting murder through an al-Qaeda-style with devilish aspiration”.

Detectives also tendered their own evidence before the overcrowded court, including facts that Hamid had an ambition to send his recruits to Africa and Afghanistan.

“He boasted that the July 7, 2005 attacks, dubbed ‘7/7′, were “not even breakfast for me”.

“And hours afterwards, detectives further testified, “he sent a text message to his friends (July 21 conspirators), which read: “We fear no one except Allah…We will not change our ways, we are proud to be Muslim and we will not hide”.
