Tata Motors Unveils the Tata Nano, World’s Cheapest Car
January 12, 2008
Tata Motors unveiled the Tata Nano this week. The Indian company’s latest arrival is the world’s cheapest car, costing just $2500.
You may be asking yourself, “How could they make a car so cheap?” Well, the answer is simple; all those perks we assumed came standard have been removed. The Tata Nano has a 33 horsepower engine, yeah, I said 33. The four seats are not adjustable and the base model is not equipped with air conditioning.
While there are models with AC, there’s no proof as yet that the 33 hp engine could power both the car and the air conditioning.
Ratan Tata, chairman of Tata Sons, Tata Motors parent company, says the car has passed crash tests, although the company is withholding which standards were used. Tata also claims the car runs cleaner than most of the scooters
The car won’t be available in the U.S. for at least 3 years.
