The Nation’s Oldest Newspaper Now Among 5% of U.S. Papers That Offer the Option

The Philadelphia Tribune, the nation’s oldest and the Greater Philadelphia Region’s largest newspaper serving the African-American community, announced that it has published today the first interactive, print-replica, “e-Edition” of its newspaper, online.

The electronic edition will be provided by Virtual Paper, a Canadian-based- digital publication firm, and offered to Tribune readers at no cost, during an initial two-week period.The Tribune “e-Edition” offers readers the ability to:

– Search for and find specific articles or words within the publication
– Browse through the table of contents to see the full content of the paper at a glance, including direct access to a desired page
– Select several different sound and visual effect options
– Add personalized comments to news stories
– Access special sections and magazines, only available through the “e-Edition”
– Click through linked advertisements
– Download, print, email or share articles, keepsake pages, advertiser coupons or the complete paper, and
– Search archives

According to the Tribune’s Publisher, Robert W. Bogle, “This is an exciting development for the Philadelphia Tribune. Never before have we offered this level of interactivity or access to our content and personalized viewing options, quite in this way. Our ‘e-Edition’ will put The Philadelphia Tribune on the forefront of news information technology.”

The Tribune joins an estimated 135 (5.4%) of the nation’s 2500 newspapers that now offer “e-Editions.”
