Togo to Host First International Fashion Festival

On 11 April, the Togolese capital, Lomé, will host about ten renowned designers for an International fashion festival dubbed “Bimod 228″, the organizers told APA.

“Our ambition is to make Togo the capital of fashion through a biennial event which will bring together the world’s renowned fashion talents,” said Mrs Blandine Banthie Sambiani-Bagna, affectionately called Bamondi, who is also a designer and initiator of the event.

“The purpose is to bring together every two years, renowned designers that have already proved their craftsmanship in their respective countries to show the example to the young would-be designers and also incite vocations by displaying all the aspects of the profession,” Bamondi said.

The “Bimod 228″ festival (228 is the country’s phone code) will reward two categories of people working in the African fashion.

“Bamondi craftsmanship Prize” which rewards “excellence and quality work” of the designer and “Bamondi Prize for social and cultural commitment” which will crown personalities that are have shown commitment and contributed to Togo’s development.

Besides designers Gilles Touré, Pathe’O (Cote d’Ivoire), Pepita D. (Benin), Clara Lawson (Burkina-Faso), Karim (Ghana), Sadji Abdoulaye (Nigeria), Collé Sow (Senegal), Zen Biladi (Morocco) and Timothée (Togo), musicians like Afia Mala and Mokobé will also grace the event.
