Turkey Promises to Open 15 New Embassies in Africa

Turkey announced on Saturday plans to open 15 new embassies in Africa as part of its initiative to enhance its relationship with Africa.

A Turkish official attending the AU summit in Sharm el Sheikh disclosed that Turkey has decided to open 15 new embassies and one new consulate general in sub –Saharan countries.

Turkey presently has 12 embassies and 23 honorary consulates throughout Africa.

This new decision to open 15 new embassies in Africa is expected to enhance African and Turkish relationship on various fields, including political affairs.

The up coming Turkey-Africa Cooperation summit, scheduled to be held in Turkey from 18 to 21 August 2008, is expected to be a good opportunity to further discuss African and Turkish relationship.

The summit is scheduled to be held under the theme “Solidarity and partnership for a common future”.

Dozens of African leaders are expected to attend this summit, in Istanbul.
