Two Killed in Clashes Over Land Dispute in South-eastern Liberia
May 10, 2008
Reports reaching the Liberian capital Monrovia say two people have been killed and four seriously injured in a land dispute in south-eastern Maryland County in south-eastern Liberia.
An Internal Affairs Ministry press statement Saturday says the dispute is between citizens of Pleebo over a 20 acre plot of land. The disputing parties are said to have hacked each other with matches, leaving two dead and four wounded.
Meanwhile, the government has condemned the clashes, and warned that it will not condone the use of violence in resolving land disputes.
The government has accordingly warned all those involved to refrain from any further violence.
