An officer of the Uganda Peoples Defense Forces (UPDF) attached to the artillery training school in western region, was on Friday beheaded by unknown assailants who took off with his military fatigue, for unknown motives.
The dead soldier was among the officer cadets about to pass out on Saturday at Butiaba UPDF artillery training wing west of Kampala city at a function presided over by the army commander General Aronda Nyakairima .
Before meeting his death, the deceased had been reportedly on his way to a trading center at Butiaba landing site on Lake Albert when he was assaulted and he died instantly.
The area district police boss Paulo Mumbogwe said on Saturday that the suspected assailants are feared to be on the run, adding that a joint security operation is now tracking them in order to get them apprehended.
He could not however ascertain the possible motives for killing the UPDF officer a day before his graduation ceremony.
