The Uganda National Focal Point on Small and Light Weapons (NFP) which is the national agency responsible for coordinating action to combat the problem of the proliferation of small arms and light weapons has embarked on a national firearms marking exercise.
According to the Uganda police force spokesperson Judith Nabakooba on Monday, the exercise will cover state stockpiles simultaneously in the Uganda Peoples Defence Forces (UPDF) and the Uganda Police Force (UPF), using a modern firearms marking machine in accordance with the agreed Best Practice Guidelines for Stockpile Management.
An event has been organized to demonstrate this modern marking machine at work to be held at Police Quartermaster Stores on Tuesday 23rd February, to be presided over by the Inspector General of Police (IGP). This event will also witness the marking of the IGP firearm as well as those of the other senior police officers.
