Uganda Traders Appeal to Kenya Government for Payment
April 8, 2008
Uganda traders who export and import their goods through Kenya have appealed to the Kenya government to compensate them for goods destroyed during the violence in the country following the December 27 elections.
The Kampala City Traders Association spokesperson, Isah Sekitto said on Monday that they have appealed to the Kenya government to fulfill the promise it made to compensate Uganda merchants whose goods were destroyed.
He said the association had written to the government several times reminding it about the promise but nothing has been done.
He called upon the government of Uganda to liaise with that of Kenya so that their problem is solved.
Several trucks ferrying goods to and from Uganda were destroyed by rioters during the post-election chaos.
