125px-Flag_of_Uganda.svg6The Ugandan government has moved to crack down on sections of the media promoting pornography. According to the minister of state for Ethics and Integrity Dr. James Nsaba Buturo, the cabinet of ministers at its meeting recently, restated its determination to take action against promoters of immorality in the country.

He told APA on Friday that cabinet noted that a new law on pornography would comprehensively address the scourge which is responsible for some of the immorality in the land.

While the law is awaited, he said Cabinet has directed that action should be taken against those sections of the media where it is a shareholder.

He singled out Bukedde newspaper a Luganda daily and sister paper to the state owned New Vision for its persistent promotion of pornographic material- a practice which has invited complaints from large sections of Ugandans and led some of them to believe that Government condones immoral acts.

He observed that Uganda was currently facing a new phenomenon which has implications way beyond what many Ugandans understand.

In the last several months, there has been persistent public outcry to the effect the morals of Ugandans are reaching a new low and that young and old together are being affected equally by the new trend.

The minister also warned that government will de-register radio stations promoting local witch doctors to promote their practice through advertising
