125px-Flag_of_Lesotho.svg1The United States government has invested $28.2 million towards the fight against HIV/AIDS in Lesotho.

This was revealed by the United States ambassador to Lesotho, Robert Nolan at the signing ceremony of grants worth $100,000, awarded to 13 community groups dealing with HIV/AIDS related issues.

Nolan said the grants have been provided as part of the funding from the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) to support local communities with grants to support their efforts in providing care for people living with HIV/AIDS, orphans and vulnerable children.

“The United States government, through the Millennium Challenge Account (MCA)-Lesotho will renovate 130 health clinics across the country, in an effort to improve health outcome for all Basotho.

One of the beneficiaries, ’Mampe Moeletsi of Qhalasi Ratanang Support Group in Mohale’s hoek, said that they are thankful to having been assisted with funds to start income generating projects.

“We are going to embark on developmental projects with a view to bringing change in the lives of orphaned children and people living with AIDS,” she added.

Beneficiaries will generate income through poultry and piggery farming, candle production, gardening, napkins and aloe cosmetics production.
