125px-Flag_of_The_Gambia.svg_1The United States embassy in Banjul, The Gambia, is scheduled to organize special training for potential Gambian exporters to the US under the Africa Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA).

Embassy sources have intimated to APA that the embassy, in partnership with the USAID/West Africa Trade Hub (WATH) in Accra, is organizing the training for fashion designers and apparel producers “to help enhance their potential to export to the United States.”

It is understood that apparel and textile products are among the 6,400 product items that the Gambia can be exported to the United States duty free under the preferential trade terms provided by AGOA.

The two-day training will cover topics such as design, pattern making, cutting, production finishing and packing and other skills required in apparel production, the embassy states.

Other features of the training include production methods and equipment, market requirements and the export process under AGOA.

Monday’s program will be held at the Sheraton Hotel and Spa near the AU village in Brufut along the Atlantic Coast, about 15 kilometers from Banjul.
