US House of Representatives Approves $516 Billion Spending Bill
December 18, 2007
The U.S. House of Representatives has approved a $516 billion budget measure that does not include funding for military operations in Iraq.
The government-wide spending bill passed Monday contains $31 billion in funding for troops in Afghanistan. The Senate is expected to add $40 billion for operations in Iraq when it debates the spending package Tuesday.
President Bush is expected to sign the measure if it contains the military funding for Iraq.
The House version also expands funding for several domestic programs Mr. Bush had sought to cut. These include medical research grants, student aid, and state and local law enforcement grants.
