Veteran Rockers The Eagles Knock Britney Spears Off the Top

November 7, 2007

The Eagles have topped the US chart after a last-minute rule change by its compilers Billboard. Long Road Out of Eden was originally denied a place because it is sold exclusively in through Wal-Mart. However, Billboard said late on Tuesday that it had changed its rules and the Eagles album - the band’s first studio work for 28 years would be listed.

The 711,000 albums sold by The Eagles pushed Britney Spears’s Blackout into second position with 290,000 copies. Britney Spears would have been number one upon the release of final SoundScan figures on Wednesday morning.

A Billboard spokesperson said they knew that some retailers would be uncomfortable with the change, but it was inevitable that Billboard’s charts would ultimately widen the parameters to reflect changes that are unfolding in music distribution.

The Eagles on top again? I think I’m going to the local bar, with an attack of Karaoke, “Take it Easy” I’ll sing, or this rip-off at http://www.realcrash.com/make-it-sleazy-say-eagles/

Got something to say?
