May 18, 2008
With about one hundred concerts with forty nationals from all over the world, the International Music Festival of Rabat “MAWAZINE, world rhythms” which started Friday evening is targeting an expected one million visitors, reliable sources told APA.
This seventh edition of the festival that has the ambition of being a harmonious mixture of tradition and modernity has laid down a substantial and “heterogeneous” program where jazz and gypsy colors will be combined with a strong presence of salsa, Brazilian pop music, afro-beat, reggae, hip-hop and gnawa.
Moroccan songs from the 70’s to modern days are on the agenda.
Modern Arab musicians will also take part in the show, including Lebanese nationals Nancy Ajram and Diana Haddad, Egyptian Amr Diabe, and Tunisian Saber Rubai among others.
During Nine nights, nine stages will be set up on the main streets of the capital to host the shows, which will be attended by high international music authorities.
In their ambition to hoist that rendezvous into a “multicultural music crossroads”, a contest of young talents (15 - 30) will be held before a large audience and a jury.
An international symposium, called “World Music and Cultural Diversity” will confer an academic dimension to the event.
The final performance will be assured by famous American singer Whitney Houston.
