The World Bank Managing Director, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, has said that she would contest in the 2011 Nigeria’s presidential elections if she received a sponsor.
Speaking in Kalabra, Cross River State in southern Nigeria, she said that she had the credentials to run for the office of president but lacked the funds to pursue such a “project”.
She was speaking in response to a request from a member of the governing council of the University of Calabar, urging her to run for the presidency of the country.
The council member described Okonjo-Iweala as a “star among stars” who has abundant credentials to lead the country as president.
“Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala has no money to run for the presidency of Nigeria. I just have ideas but if you want it to happen, it is over to you”, she stated.
The former Finance Minister of Nigeria, however, hinted that she would support Acting President Goodluck Jonathan and his team, and said she had been consulted to assist the administration.
“I have been consulted to support the government. I will do so and very soon, you will begin to see the effects,” she stated.
