The World Bank president Robert Zoelick said that his institution would “soon” audit the coffee-cocoa industry in Cote d’Ivoire, while speaking on Friday at the end of his visit to the Ivorian economic capital.
We anticipate an audit of the coffee-cocoa industry. There is no reason that Cote d’Ivoire would fail to process the cocoa ; which could create jobs, Zoelick told a press conference in Abidjan.
The anti-corruption fight in the coffee-cocoa industry is a great opportunity to attract investors, he stressed, adding that Cote d’Ivoire, as the world’s leading cocoa producer, should not loss this product for which the country has adequate conditions for its production.
Zoelick said he and the authorities and representatives of civil society organizations had discussed various points related to the financial assistance to the reconciliation process and to debt cancellation as well as to economic growth and reform in some sectors of the national economy.
The World Bank president is due this weekend in Addis Ababa where he will attend the summit of the African Union heads of state and government, before proceeding to Sierra Leone.
