Government says it will install more equipment in public health institutions to improve and increase free access to anti-retroviral therapy for people suffering from HIV/AIDS.
Health minister Kapembwa Simbao said on the eve of World AIDS Day on Sunday that the government was committed to provide treatment to more than the 165,000 people currently receiving free treatment.
He said the only challenge was the lack of equipments in medical institutions to test patients.
Hence, he said, government has decided to acquire CD4 machines to determine the immunity levels of a patient in all district hospitals across the country.
Currently the CD4 machines are only available in the provincial hospitals.
There are currently an estimated one million people in Zambia that are living with HIV and in need of the treatment.
